Possible Causes Of Right Side Pain

Right Side Pain may be  a symptom of a particular type of illness. Many of us however would have encountered such kind of pain at least for once in our lifetime. There are times that this right side pain may just be due to a viral or bacterial infection. However, there are cases that it may caused by an abdominal area-related medical condition. Some of these medical cases could include any of the following:

Appendicitis

Right side pain because of appendicitis is a common occurrence. The appendix extends to the large intestine. It is a 3 ½ in. tissue tube. If the appendix is blocked because of an infection this will cause appendicitis to occur. The swelling of the appendix will occur because of such infection. Treatment should thus be made immediately to prevent a rupture of the appendix from taking place. The treatment for appendicitis is called an appendectomy. Once diagnosed of the medical condition, an appendectomy should immediately be undertaken.

Ectopic Pregnancies

Pregnant women may also feel a right side pain in their abdomen. If it becomes persistently painful then this could be a symptom of an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy means that the fertilized egg has become implanted in the fallopian tube instead of within the uterus. If the egg has implanted itself at the right fallopian tube, then pain may be felt at the right side but it is also possible that it is implanted in the left side so that pain may also be felt at this side. To treat an ectopic pregnancy, the pregnancy is usually terminated.

Gall stones

Right side pain in the abdominal area can also be linked to having gall stones. There is pain being felt in the abdomen’s upper right side which extends to pain felt in the upper right back as well as the shoulder and chest. The patient could also experience nausea & vomiting by then. These gall stones are stones formed in the gall bladder. The gall bladder is the body part which is a storage for bile that emanates from one’s liver. Different kinds of gall stones may be formed. There are brown or black gall stones which are known as pigment gall stones. There are also cholesterol gall stones that could be formed. In order to rid the body of these gall stones a cholesystectomy would have to be initiated. This procedure would get rid of any right side abdominal pain felt.

Ovarian Cysts

Right side pain can also be a symptom of  ovarian cysts. The one with ovarian cysts will feel a moderate to severe pain in their stomach’s lower right part. This pain progresses up to the lower stomach and lower thighs. It is in the ovary that such cysts are formed. This could be one of the cause of infertility for a woman. Ovarian cancer can also be a result of ovarian cysts. The cysts though could be taken out using a surgical procedure. This surgical procedure is known as laparotomy or laparoscopy.
